Community Volunteers Join First Kurdistan-Wide Amphibian Survey

A network of local volunteers took part in the first coordinated, region-wide amphibian survey this season, visiting known and suspected breeding pools across all four governorates over a single spring window.

Amphibians are notoriously under-recorded compared to birds and larger mammals, in part because surveying them requires being at the right pool at the right time of year. Bringing together volunteers across the region in the same season gives a much clearer, comparable snapshot than scattered individual visits ever could.

Results are still being compiled, and the team hopes to make this an annual event.
